Advisory Technical Business Analyst

POSITION SUMMARY:

Wealth Management Technology Solutions department is looking for a creative results-oriented and energetic Advisory Technical Business Analyst.  The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic application development, support  responsible for the implementation of Wealth Management applications to meet the needs of Wealth Management Brokerage and Private Client groups.  To join our team you must be proactive, demonstrate initiative, have an eagerness to learn and thrive on challenge. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The incumbent is responsible for the following:

  1. Effective research and analysis of business requirements and functional specifications leading to the completion of complex functional specifications or External Design Documents
  2. Independently resolve and document complex problems to meet business needs
  3. Create, document and execute complex test cases.  Design and maintain GUI screens
  4. Continually acquire and enhance knowledge of wealth applications and interfaces with current banking systems, wealth business strategies, policies, risk management methodologies and practices, product offerings, financial markets and financial instruments.
  5. Provide guidance, mentoring, and training to junior technical BAs and coops
  6. Participate in walkthroughs of Wealth applications during various stages of the project 
  7. Provide guidance and advice to developers to meet project objectives
  8. Perform IST and support UAT
  9. Actively participate in large scale system implementations

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidate should be a highly creative and motivated individual responsible for independently resolving complex problems to meet business needs by applying financial and technological knowledge to the design and testing of complex Wealth Management Applications. 
  • Formulate and define systems scope and objectives based on both user needs and a good understanding of applicable business systems and industry requirements. 
  • Competent to work at the highest technical level of systems analysis while considering business implications of the application of technology to the current and future Wealth Management environment

The incumbent must possess:

  1. A creative self-starter, results-oriented and highly motivated individual with excellent analytical skills and the ability to apply this knowledge in the resolution of complex business problems
  2. Experience in all phases of the application development life cycle.  A very good understanding of current IT practices and software development methodologies such as RUP as well as system specifications and testing methodologies.
  3. Good knowledge of financial instruments, including market conventions and valuation methods, end-to-end workflows among the front, middle, and back offices, within at least one financial market area (e. g. equities, commodities, trading) and a good knowledge of at least one other financial market area.
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written and presentation) in order to effectively liaise with business users, vendors, other departments and members of project team.
  5. Effective time management and organization skills with the ability to use diplomacy, judgment, and persuasion to secure agreement and cooperation from the business users and a dynamic project team.
  6. Good working knowledge of Microsoft suite of products
  7. Good working knowledge of databases such as Oracle, Sybase and MS SQL Server
  8. Experience with PL/SQL, UNIX, PHP, HTML and Visual Basic a definite asset
  9. Experience with Use cases, UML, Rational Rose, Requisite Pro a definite asset
  10. Working experience with HP/QC or Rational Clear Quest
  11. Familiar with network concepts (VPN, IP filtering, virtual IP, firewalls, etc)

EDUCATION AND ACCREDITATIONS:

A recognized under-graduate degree in business, computers, economics, mathematics or a related discipline, along with 5+ years of practical experience is required.  Canadian Securities course a definite asset.
